Q2:   How can a burn permit be obtained?

A2:    Burn permits are issued at the Shady Shores Community Center on Fridays between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Q3:   How is trash collection handled?

A3:   The Town has contracted with Waste Management.  Currently regular trash and recyclables are collected every Thursday.  For Waste Management contact information, click here.

Waste Management does not generally place a limit on the amount of trash you may put out curbside on collection days, but if you are putting out large objects (furniture, appliances), you should call Waste Management at 940-497-4003 no later than the day before pickup so that they will be prepared for the extra items.  Refrigerators and air conditioners must have had the freon removed and must be properly labeled to this effect.

Waste Management customers in the Town of Shady Shores are permitted to bring one load of trash to the Lewisville Landfill each calendar year.  The load must not exceed the capacity of a standard sized pickup truck bed, and you must bring your Waste Management bill with you to present to the attendant.  Subsequent loads will be subject to the usual fee at the landfill.

If you are clearing out an entire house and have an exceptionally large amount of trash, please call Waste Management at 940-497-4003 to make arrangements for them to come out at a fee of $85 per hour.

Our services from Waste Management include recycling pickups at all residences.  Waste Management supplies a convenient green plastic bin for this purpose.  Please call them at 940-497-4003 if you did not receive a recycling bin.  Additional bins can be purchased at Home Depot or a similar store. The following items may be recycled.

Q. 4: Can I reserve the Community Center for a private function?

A. 4: Yes; stop in at the Community Center during office hours to inquire about reserving the Community Center.

Q. 5: Why is the water red in the pond on the west side of Shady Shores Road between Dobbs Rd. and Oakwood Circle?

A. 5:We contacted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as this pond is on their property.  They came out and took a look, and let us know that there is mosquito fern on that pond.  You can read more about mosquito fern on Texas A&M's website by clicking here. The Corps of Engineers advised us that their policy is not to remove aquatic plants such as mosquito fern.
